ALL FREE

The School Program
Free sessions for students from Years P-7.
Each program consists of children engaging with three authors, illustrators or storytellers in venues in Ipswich, Qld or at Woodlands of Marburg. Schools apply to attend and are notified of their success.

The program has been updated to reflect bookings to date. Stirke-through text means booked out.

The Science Week Program
This year we are extending SAFI into National Science Week Monday 12 – Friday 16 August 2024

Dr Samantha Lloyd (Sam) is an award-winning Principal Scientist for the Queensland Fire and Biodiversity Consortium with Healthy Land and Water (the regional Natural Resource Management body for south-east Qld), a dance teacher with Achieve Performing Arts Studio and a writer. Sam recently published her first book, a children’s non-fiction narrative story with CSIRO Publishing called Alight: A story of fire and nature.

Samantha will present an engaging, informative and fun literature and curriculum-based learning experience for students around the book, Alight: A story of fire and nature, with a focus on the interconnectedness of nature and the role of fire in the Australian bush.

A second author has been added to this program, Yvonne Mes who will be introducing her new book Opal Dinosaur, coming in August with CSIRO.

BOOKINGS CLOSED

The Adult Program
The two day conference/retreat for writers, illustrators, teachers and librarians promotes excellence in children’s literature. Primary and Middle Years teachers will gain an insight into the stories behind some of our best book creators with ties to how literature supports aspects of the Australian Curriculum. The festival aims to offer a quality, affordable program for all.
